Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has secured the support of the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany for his proposal to hold direct ceasefire talks with Russia.
According to a joint statement, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Zelenskyy’s proposal to end the conflict and backed direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, with active participation from the United States and Europe.
Zelenskyy met the three leaders at 10 Downing Street in London as the Russia–Ukraine conflict entered its fifth year.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said he also informed Starmer that Ukraine requires additional missiles for its air defence systems. The appeal comes days after he published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin proposing face-to-face talks aimed at ending the conflict.
Following the meeting, Starmer reiterated Britain’s support for Ukraine in a post on X and said the UK would stand with Ukraine for as long as necessary.
