New Delhi continues to reel under an intense cold spell as temperatures plunge sharply across the national capital.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature recorded at Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory on Monday stood at 3.2 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the mercury dipped even further to 2.9 degrees, with Ayanagar recording the lowest temperature in the city.
Dense fog has added to the winter woes, significantly impacting visibility across several parts of Delhi. In view of the foggy conditions, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has issued an advisory for passengers. As per the notice issued at 8 AM, travellers have been advised to check their flight status due to low visibility near the airport area. The latest update confirms that CAT III conditions have been imposed at the airport to manage operations amid dense fog.
Meanwhile, as the biting cold grips the capital, air quality continues to remain a concern. According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood at 298, falling in the ‘poor’ category as of Monday morning at 10 AM. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions as cold, fog, and pollution continue to affect daily life in the national capital.
